5 Ways To Increase Your Metabolism
Hey everyone,
I'm sure you'd agree that there are things in life that you wish you had known of sooner, and without question, the five tips below are the case for me.
Your metabolism is responsible for how efficiently your body burns fat, uses the nutrients within the body and how much energy you have throughout the day, mentally and physically. Improving the function of your metabolism will increase fat burning, your energy and overall health.
Your overall happiness too!
Five cost-effective, time efficient and simple ways to increase your metabolism starting today.
1) View natural sunlight within the first 20 minutes of waking.
Viewing natural sunlight (even if cloudy) upon waking sets every cell within your body, also known as your circadian clock. The light that enters your eyes dictates hunger, hormones, sleep, food timings and cravings.
View sunlight upon waking for 5-10 minutes on clear days and 10-20 minutes on cloudy days.

2) Enjoy a breakfast consisting of protein, fat and fiber
Upon waking, every cell in your brain and body requires protein to function optimally.
A high-protein breakfast leads to steadier blood sugar and insulin levels and helps curb cravings in the afternoon.
Reliable blood sugar levels lead to better mood, higher energy levels, increased focus and are the backbone of metabolic health.
My favorite on-the-go smoothie is a plant-based chocolate protein powder, frozen spinach, frozen blueberries, one tbsp of flaxseeds and a tsp of cinnamon - blend and go!
3) Ensuring optimal Thyroid function
The thyroid's main job is to control your metabolism and your thyroid requires two nutrients to function; Selenium and Iodine.
Just one Brazil nut gives your body its required daily selenium and is the highest food source. If you can't eat nuts, foods such as seeds and seafood contain selenium but less per serving.
Iodine can be ingested through good quality sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, or enjoying nori seaweed sheets from sushi.
I love having nori sheets with a salad instead of bread; you can buy little flavored snack packs made by Itsu from the supermarket or buy larger plain ones.
*If using salt as your iodine source, check the label to ensure it contains iodine.
4) Walk 20 minutes after every meal
Going on a walk after eating does so much for your body, including boosting your metabolism, aiding digestion, stopping bloating, and energising the body.
Walking after meals changes your body's response to the foods you eat and how to utilise them.
It also burns more calories within your day, increasing your overall energy expenditure.
5) Eat two portions of cruciferous vegetables a day
Cruciferous veggies such as spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, and asparagus are among the top foods for your liver.
The liver plays a vital role in your metabolism and converting food into energy.
Also, vegetables contain abundant vitamins and minerals and lots of fiber so they enhance your overall health, improve digestion and burn energy, making them fat-burning machines!
Incorporating these small changes within your day will significantly impact your ability to burn fat and feel energised and motivated.
Let me know how you get on, and I'd love to hear your thoughts or any questions you have below.
Much love
